2022 East Coast Grand Nationals

PRELIMINARY EVENT DESCRIPTION

(Specific items may change, for the better or worse, due to COVID regulations and minimum participation requirements)

Team Shelby Northeast invites you to join us as we celebrate the 60th Anniversary of Shelby American and the 30th Anniversary of The Carroll Shelby Foundation for our 2022 event. This year’s event will revolve around looking back over the evolution of the Marque and toasting the significance of its “Diamond Anniversary”, as well as the continued support of the charity that Carroll himself began.

The event starts Thursday, June 2nd with a day of High Performance Driving on what is known as The Tricky Triangle….Pocono Raceway! For the second year, we have secured the North Course, which incorporates portions of both the infield AND the tri-oval, for two track experiences in one event! The course is 1.5 miles long and utilizes the north infield road course as well as turn three of the tri-oval. The track has nine turns and two straights, the longest being approximately 1700′. Track operations will be managed directly by Team Shelby Northeast, to ensure a professional and safe experience. Representatives from Shelby American and Ford Motor company are scheduled to be in attendance, as well as other special guests and manufacturers.

Based on skill and prior track experience, drivers will be split into three run groups (Novice, Intermediate, and Advanced). A limited number of in-car instructors will be available to assist drivers, and introductory classroom instruction will also be provided as part of the package.

If you’re looking for something a little ‘speedier’ than parade laps, but not quite the all-out high performance driving experience, we will offer the opportunity for touring lap sessions. You will experience your car’s power on the straights, but we will keep it to a moderate pace when it gets to the turns so that no one gets pushed past their comfort zone.

If you just like hanging out at the track and watching, that’s fine too. While we aren’t planning on a judged car show in the paddock this year, please feel free to “Show & Shine” throughout the day. We will stage an on-track group photo and take a lunch time parade lap or two.

Still looking for something else to do while at the track? How does driving a UTV sound? Pocono Outdoor Adventure Tours is ready to give you a scenic and adrenaline filled tour on the property of famous Pocono Raceway. Whether it is trail riding in the woods, navigating an exciting challenge course or the tour down the outside of the Long Pond straight (well known by race fans), there is something for the entire family. Tours are guided, include safety instructions, and are approximately an hour long.

The Ballroom at the Mount Airy Casino will be the venue for our Thursday evening Happy Hour and Banquet. There will be a few short presentations and items for auction, but the main focus of the evening is camaraderie and bench racing with fellow Ford/Shelby enthusiasts…maybe even a test of your Shelby and TSNE trivia knowledge.

Friday morning has us departing Mount Airy Casino for a Poker Run through the Northeastern portion of Pennsylvania. We currently plan on stopping for a picnic lunch and touring “Steel Stacks” which was once the home plant of Bethlehem Steel, the second largest steel manufacturer in the nation. When guests visit the Steel Stacks, the first thing they usually notice are the towering ‘stacks’ after which the campus is named. What many people may not realize is that these iconic structures are actually a series of five blast furnaces that were used in the iron making process at Bethlehem Steel for decades. There will be a few scenic photo-ops, as we wind our way towards Carlisle, PA., to join in the Carlisle Ford Nationals. Will there be a Grand Entrance this year, and will you be part of it?……you know there will be, and you also know Team Shelby will lead the way!

Our Friday night dinner and the “Cars Under the Stars” car show will be held on the historic estate of John Williams (nationally registered). We will once again be in a rustic barn setting where we will share dinner and host our presentations. Similar to last year, a happy hour will precede our dinner program. This gives you time to have a few appetizers and cast a ballot for your favorite cars before we move into the Barn for the remainder of the evening. The night will include an autograph panel of historic Shelby related celebrities, Anniversary remembrances of past history and events, updates on the latest that Shelby American and Ford Performance has to offer, as well as auction items to benefit the Carroll Shelby Foundation and to emphasize the “Diamond Anniversary”…maybe even take home an original piece of artwork created as we look on throughout the evening, by a famous and well renowned automotive artist and designer. Any guesses who that might be?

Saturday morning is relatively free for you to enjoy the Carlisle Fairgrounds. The Team Shelby Club Tent will be open throughout the day for you to catch some shade and rest your feet. Lunch will be provided in our Club Tent, and we will present a few awards including the infamous “That Guy” trophy. In the afternoon, check out the Ford display tent which showcases all the new Ford cars and trucks…and don’t forget to pick up your free Ford T-shirt while you are there.

In lieu of the Downtown Parade, we will be fostering the competitive nature that makes us part of Team Shelby by partaking in “BBQ and Bowling”. Our evening dinner and competition will take place at Midway Bowl, right in Carlisle. A BBQ buffet awaits us, then we break into teams and begin the search to find the best bowler in our group. All ages can participate.

Stop by the Carlisle Fairgrounds one last time on Sunday morning to see if you have won an award from the Ford Nationals, take a few last photos, say goodbye to friends at the Team Shelby Club Tent, then make your way home and begin thinking about what else we can do next year.

Pocono HPDE/Track Registration

If you will be tracking your car with us at Pocono Raceway, please select one of the following track options. Note that we are also offering a limited amount of indoor garage spaces.
• Group A – Novice Shelby Drivers
• Group B – Novice Open Drives (all makes/models)
• Group C – Intermediate/Advanced Open (all makes/models)
• Touring Laps (all makes/models, including convertibles. Helmets are not mandatory.)
• Garage space (limited availability)
Specifics on equipment and safety requirements as well as inquiries concerning track insurance will be provided by our track Steward once you register, but here are a few items to consider…

  1. Helmets ONLY SA2015, SA2020, SA2025 will be accepted. No Motorcycle (MA20XX), DOT, or others will be accepted, as well as any SA2010 and older. There are no exceptions, these are Industry-wide track regulations. There will NOT be any extra or rental helmets available at the event. No refunds can be given if you arrive with the wrong type of helmet.
  2. Touring Laps do not require use of helmets. They will be led by a pace car at reduced speeds.
  3. Convertibles and open cars will be allowed in any HPDE ONLY if it is equipped with a proper approved Roll-Bar. Styling bars, Light bars, and other non-rollover protection bars are not approved, and you will not be allowed on track for any HPDE run group. All Approved roll bars MUST clear the occupants helmet by a minimum of two (2) inches with the driver in proper seated position.
  4. Seat Belts are always an important topic. If your car is factory equipped with air bags and factory seat belts, we STRONGLY recommend they are retained and used. They are designed from the manufacturer to work properly as an integrated protection system. Changes to this reduce the effectiveness of protection and could result in worse injuries if the air bags are deployed. If your car is equipped with a 5,6,or7 point Harness system as the ONLY method of driver restraint, then a HANS restraint is MANDATORY. This rule is being adopted by most groups, and we are going by this to assure driver and passenger safety. Both driver and passenger must have matching belts and protection.
  5. Drivers wishing to be placed in the advanced group will all be vetted by the track steward, and approved after experience submission and interview by the event Steward.

IMPORTANT: When you register for the event you will be sent a self-inspection certification form for your car. This is a safety inspection you must complete prior to arriving at the track. We will collect the form from you during check-in at the track, and your car must ‘Pass’ the inspection to participate. There will be no refunds if your car does not pass the self-inspection.

All selections need to be added to your cart separately. Select your option, add it to your cart, then return to your cart to add more options.
